NEWS

March 2010

Welcome to the 4th Royal Eltham News Letter. The newsletter is also produced in paper form for those without access to the Internet. It is intended to  to keep members and parents up to date with what has happened and what is going to happen in both the Cub and Scout programme. This is the beginning of our 101st year as a Scout Group. ( No Chief was not a founder member!)  Last year saw a reunion of former Cubs, Scouts and Leaders spreading back over 60 years. We may well repeat the exercise again.

Troop flag

Our longest serving member Daniel won an award that will enable us to buy a new Troop flag as our existing one is over 50 years old and is showing its age. We will be ordering it in the near future. Daniel won the award for attending every activity that the 4th has done in the last 5 years! That’s dedication for you.

 Bring a friend.

We are in need of new members in both the Cub and Scouts. More children = more fun. Several of the Cubs have earned their bring a friend badge that they are wearing proudly on their scarves. Word of mouth is the best way of recruiting.

Programme

We have a number of activities for both Cubs and Scouts coming up in the near future. Bushy Wood, near Eastbourne (Camp in a hut) one night, 6/7th March. Our “Not Easter Camp”, the weekend after Easter but still in the school holidays. We will be camping on a farm in the hills outside Port Talbot helping the farmer with the newborn lambs. There is always a welcome in this hillside. Then in May our weeklong summer camp in the Forest of Dean near Monmouth, South Wales.  Full details and photographs are on the website.

 Friends and Supporters

Since Greenwich Council gave up management of the Community Centre we have had to pay rent of £700 for the year. This is a major task for us and to help out we are starting a supporters group. So far we have about 6 adults who are prepared to help. If you would like to help, please contact one of the leaders for further details.

Web Site - www,4th-royal-eltham-scouts.net

Our web site has been up and running for over 10 years and has been viewed by Scouts and members of the public all over the world. It’s a great way to advertise what we do. Please do try to view it, even if it means a trip to an Internet Café. You will find it packed with useful information about everything that we do. There is a section for members only, that has even more information and photographs. Ask Skip or Chief for a user name and Password so you can access the "friends & members" section.
